Abstract	The Protocol to Abate Acidification, Eutrophication and Ground-level Ozone was adopted on 30 November 1999 and means the last step in the regime that started with the 1979 Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution. This text supposes a new approach to long-range air pollution, based in multi-effects and multi-pollutants. This approach is integral, fits in with scientific facts and simplifies an international regime based on the adoption of particular legal instruments about every pollutant. In spite of this advantages, the ratification will be slow because of the high cost implementation. The ecological advantages will have to be balanced with the economic and political circumstances.
