| Abstract | The student's absentism at university classrooms has not been one of the main topics in the educational research field until now. This topic has been mainly studied as an intervening variable, or as variable of the educational process itself, but not as a dependent variable by itself. In this work we propose an empirical approach to analyze which are the main reasons for the absenteism of students. We have a double point of view for this analysis, students and teachers approach, by exploring the reasons given for each group. The work collects information from six different study degrees, at the Faculty of Economics and Business of University of Barcelona. An ad hoc questionnaire has been developed and the opinions of 1.162 students and 185 professors are analyzed. Some interesting differences between two groups have been found, in particular referred to the hierarchy and motivations of the students absentism. |
