Abstract The development of oyster culture in the state of Para depends on the production of seeds and their collection in the natural environment, which does not occur continuously throughout the year in the area of this study. Thus, it is required to induce spawning of oysters in laboratory conditions. In this study, was evaluated by the following simple and economical methods: (1) Physical and chemical shocks, changing the temperature and salinity of the water, injection of (2) magnesium chloride hexahydrate and (3) nicotine solution. Over a period of nine hours oysters not respond to any stimulation, presenting merely muscle contractions, lacking gamete releases. This fact occurred, following causes external stress factors, the absence of constant aeration and the short period of the experiment. It is noteworthy that, it was the first time that there were used these chemicals to induced spawning reproduction of oysters. Craving efficacy of used methods in this study, it is suggested (1) a constant aeration throughout the experiment to prevent stress caused by hypoxia, (2) ensure that oysters are not exposed to external vibrations, produced by movement around the experimental tanks and (3) repeating the experiment with a longer experimental time and (4) in other periods of the year, where gonads may be in more mature phase. |
