| Abstract | The traditional water and soil conservation techniques are very important in marginal rural areas. Their spatial distribution is not only related with agro-ecology, but also with socio-economical aspects and a long history of migration and cultures. Namely, the SWC managements aim to capture and improve the use of water under arid and semi-arid environments, while it tries more to conserve the soil via the diversion of water and the decrease of the energy of runoff, in the humid regions. We observe the non inclusion of traditional water and soil management systems into watersheds' management systems. Their “under valuation” nowadays presents the danger of loss of this traditional know-how. It's why the overall aim of this paper is to contribute to a better forecast of water and soil conservation under the various ecological and social conditions of the rural areas in Morocco and to understand the social, economical and cultural processes behind these traditional technics. |
