| Abstract | In this literature review, the policies and health programs implemented in the country on the behavioral risk factors associated with chronic non-communicable diseases were analyzed. To carry out the research, several actions that have been implemented at international and national levels were identified related to the reduction or control of cigarette smoking, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol and unhealthy diets. An overview was established which sustains why these factors in recent times represent one of the greatest challenges for public health and the economic development of a country, especially in those countries with low and middle income just like ours. A set of criteria that shows the progress of Ecuador with regard to the implementation and enforcement of health policies and programs was determined, however, the prevalence figures of these factors and therefore the figures associated with morbidity and mortality are unacceptably high. This reality can be prevented by intensifying efforts through the renovation, strengthening or creating new policies or health programs including a multi sectoral coverage; strategic alliances; and improved health systems and surveillance. |
