Abstract	A organizacao da Alianca Renovadora Nacional (ARENA) ocorreu apos a extincao de todos os partidos politicos existentes ate 1965, quando foi necessario abrigar em duas legendas os representantes das diversas correntes politicas ate entao existentes. No Rio Grande do Sul, as tratativas para a formacao da ARENA seguiram um arranjo partidario ja existente no periodo anterior ao fechamento dos partidos, proveniente de um acordo politico estabelecido para as eleicoes estaduais de 1962. Nesse sentido, se por um lado os contatos iniciais foram facilitados por ja haver esta aproximacao, por outro, percebe -se que a organizacao do partido foi palco de diversas disputas, no que diz respeito a escolha dos representantes que ocupariam a direcao partidaria, e tambem no que se refere a escolha dos candidatos ao executivo e ao legislativo. O presente artigo procura discorrer sobre a formacao da ARENA no Rio Grande do Sul, percebendo quais os elementos que permearam a formacao desse partido, bem como suas relacoes com o regime civil-militar. ABSTRACT: The organization of the National Renewal Alliance ( ARENA) occurred after the extinction of all existing political parties until 1965, when it was necessary to shelter in two legends representatives of various political tendencies hitherto existing. In Rio Grande do Sul, the negotiations for the formation of the ARENA followed an already existing prior to the closing party period partisan arrangement, from a political agreement for the state elections 1962. Accordingly, if on one hand the initial contacts were facilitated by this approach already there, on the other, it is perceived that the party organization played host to several disputes with regard to the choice of representatives who occupy the party leadership, and also with regard to the choice of candidates for th e executive and the legislative. This Communication seeks to discuss the formation of the ARENA in Rio Grande do Sul, realizing w hat elements permeated the formation of this party, as well as its relations with the civilian - military regime.
