| Abstract | A computer system should support all the characters used by the user, even if some characters are not represented in the character encoding scheme(s) used in the system. In this paper, we describe a glyph generation process which, given a character composition expression describing the component composition of a character , will generate the corresponding glyph. The process relies on glyph beauty evaluation metrics based on Chi-nese calligraphy, and uses a beauty evaluation function to guide the search for more beautiful glyphs through iterations. Our approach can be applied to a bitmap, vector or outline base font of standard glyphs as the glyph composition components, as compared to earlier work which can only use parametric base font 1]. A prototype system has been implemented to demonstrate our approach and example generated glyphs are shown. |
