| Abstract | In this paper audiometric results obtained by two groups of children with and without reading difficulties, and in tests that assess central auditory processing, in order to assess the degree of maturity of the auditory system in both groups, were compared. Tests administered were: a test of reading speed, audiometry for air and bone conduction, a speed test of auditory processing (ISI), and a dichotic listening test, as a test of auditory laterality. A new screening test (TS), which aims to identify those children with reading difficulties, the cause could be linked to a deficit in auditory processing speed, were also administered. Results: The group with reading disabilities showed lower performance in reading speed, speed of auditory processing and dichotic listening. The group without reading difficulties scored better in the TS test. No significant differences were observed in the audiometric profile of both groups. Conclusions: Children with reading difficulties seem to get worse results in temporal auditory processing tasks. The TS test could be a good test to identify children with auditory processing disorders, although further studies are required in order to obtain a reference baremacion age. |
