| Abstract | In the last decades the landscape for hospitals has changed drastically. Hospitals have had to become more aware of their operations and efficiency as of budgetary-‐cuts and market dynamics. Simulation models can be used to evaluate what-‐if situation. It has been found that these simulation models are often developed for one specific situation. Due to their specific nature, these models can hardly be reused and maintained. In this thesis a methodology is presented in which four available models are combined into a configurable process model (C-‐EPC). This C-‐EPC constitutes the basis for a discrete event configurable simulation tool. The tool incorporates two main features: the construction and the running of the model. Using a range of test methods, it was found that the configurable tool produces models with the required configurations. A questionnaire amongst a small number of consultants showed the tool was significantly (p<0.1) better in terms of perceived usefulness, reusability, maintenance, time-‐intensity and needed amount of prior knowledge. |
