| Abstract | Porphyrins are a group of highly conjugated macro cyclic organic compounds. Most of the Porphyrins are naturally occurring compounds. The best and popularly known porphyrins are, the heme and chlorophyll compounds. Chlorophyll is an extremely important biomolecule, which has high molar extinction coefficient value, which can allow plants to absorb energy from the light. In this thesis, we selected Porphyrin as main interest of synthesis and separated it’s synthesis into two main parts to discuss in detail. One part is extended with π conjugation using an alkyne substitute and also dimer Porphyrin to increase the range of absorption spectrum, which can expectedly enhance the corresponding efficiency. We also have taken YD2-o-C8 as control group to compare with bis-ethynyl porphyrin (9) 、 (10) and tetra-ethynyl (13) compounds. Obviously, the UV-Vis spectrum is with more red shift, tetra-ethynyl (13) even reaches the near IR region, which increases about 100 nm than YD2-o-C8. To commercialize, these compounds have less synthesis steps with large-scale production feasibility. Its synthesis is considerably low cost which can generally acceptable by the public. The other part, we designed with new donating group based on YD2-o-C8. The new donor has longer carbon chain to enhance electron donating ability and its branch is to increase the solubility that avoids electrolyte injection with respect to corresponding active Porphyrin dye. |
