| Abstract | Este estudo foi desenvolvido no rio Sao Francisco, nos trechos urbanos das orlas de Petrolina-PE e Juazeiro-Ba, locais que apresentam grandes problemas ambientais decorrentes do uso inadequado do solo. Sendo assim, objetivou-se avaliar e monitorar as principais areas de ocorrencia do assoreamento, visto que o mesmo intensifica-se atraves da exposicao do solo, em decorrencia da retirada da cobertura vegetal. Neste sentido, adotou-se o metodo ecodinâmico para avaliar a dinâmica fluvial, com base em dados obtidos atraves de levantamentos bibliograficos, cartograficos e imagens de satelites, realizou-se a demarcacao dos pontos considerados criticos, e assim, fez-se a avaliacao e o monitoramento destes pontos. Durante os trabalhos de campo realizaram-se coletas de agua e de sedimentos para verificar os principais materiais encontrados, e concomitantemente o tipo de transporte destes sedimentos. Tambem, avaliou-se o nivel de instabilidade do ambiente fluvial, tendo como parâmetro a dinâmica ecologica dos sistemas. Dessa forma, diagnosticou-se que o assoreamento do rio estudado provem tanto de suas margens desmatadas, como do aporte de sedimentos removidos pela erosao em seus principais afluentes e ilhas. Constatou-se tambem que com o passar do tempo esses sedimentos estao aumentando consideravelmente, contribuindo com a diminuicao da profundidade do leito fluvial. MONITORING AND CHARACTERIZATION OF RIVER SEDIMENTATION IN SAO FRANCISCO IN URBAN EDGES OF PETROLINA-PE AND JUAZEIRO-BA Abstract This investigation was developed at Sao Francisco river, between the urban edges of Petrolina-PE and Juazeiro-BA, places that have significant environmental impact resulting from inappropriate land use. Therefore, this study aimed to assess and monitor the main areas of occurrence of siltation on these rivers, since it intensifies due to removal of vegetation and exposure of the soil. Therefore, we adopted the method ecodinâmico to assess the fluvial dynamics, based on data obtained from literature surveys, mapping and satellite imagery. We held the demarcation points considered critical, and so did the evaluation at these monitoring points. During the field work water sampling was conducted and sediment was measured to verify the main materials found, and concomitantly the type of transport of these sediments. Also, we evaluated the level of instability of the fluvial environment, having as parameter the dynamics of ecological systems. Thus, we diagnosed that the silting of the river orginis and studied both its banks that have been cleared, as the supply of sediment removed by erosion in its main tributaries and islands. It was also found that over time these sediments are increasing considerably, contributing to the decreased depth of the riverbed. Keywords : Siltation, Sao Francisco river, environmental impact . |
