| Abstract | The coverage problem has been carefully considered in wireless sensor networks during the past decades, several algorithms have been proposed to address this problem. The aim of this work, is to propose a distributed algorithm for total coverage of the area of interest using a reduced number of active nodes to conserve the energy of sensors. In this work, we have contributed to the improvement of an algorithm for monitoring a perimeter to monitoring of the entire surface of the area of interest. Once the perimeter is covered, we form circles with a radius smaller than the radius of the area of interest. We made two approaches to calculate the radius, the first is to find the distance between the center and the furthest point and subtract it uncovered a fixed pitch, and for the second approach a fixed pitch radius of the area is directly subtracted interest, coverage of these circles is done in the same way as the first perimeter. Simulation results indicate that the first approach provides full coverage with a minimum of sensors and the second approach. |
