Abstract	Introduction Child maltreatment exacts an enormous toll on society in terms of both human suffering and economic loss. The costs of medical, legal, educational and child-welfare services related to maltreatment are estimated to be a staggering $94 billion a year in the United States alone. Accordingly, there is a sense of urgency in addressing this issue at all levels of prevention and intervention.
