Abstract	O estudo do ciclo de vida das organizacoes tem o objetivo de analisar as mudancas estruturais que ocorrem ao longo da existencia das organizacoes. Machado-da-Silva, Vieira e Dellagnelo (1998), propoem um modelo baseado em tres estagios, que possuem como variantes questoes referentes a estrutura, estrategias, planejamento e ao controle organizacional. Baseando-se neste modelo estudou-se o setor de moveis e eletroeletronicos de Santiago/RS atraves da analise de seis empresas varejistas. Para que este fim fosse atingido foi realizado um estudo de casos multiplos nas empresas do referido setor. O instrumento de coleta de dados foi um questionario do tipo estruturado com questoes objetivas aplicado aos gerentes das empresas pesquisadas. Apos analise das informacoes, observou-se que todas as empresas apresentam estrutura organizacional funcional, o planejamento e sistematico em 100% das empresas, sendo que 2 delas realizam planejamento sistematico de longo prazo. Todas as empresas enfatizam a inovacao e a criatividade e apresentam relacionamento estavel com o ambiente externo, caracteristicas relacionadas ao estagio de Formalizacao. Baseando-se nestas e em outras variaveis concluiu-se que cinco das empresas pesquisadas encontram-se no estagio de Formalizacao e uma no estagio de Flexibilizacao. - The organizations cicle of life study aims to analise the structural changes that occur a long of organizations existence. Machado-da-Silva, Vieira e Dellagnelo (1998) proposed a model based in three stages, which have as variants subjects regarding the structure, strategies, planning and the organizational control. Based on this model, it was studied the section of pieces of furniture and eletronics of Santiago/RS through the analysis of six retail companies. To acchieve this, a study of multiple cases was carried out in the companies of the referred section. The instrument of data collection was a questionnaire of the structural type with objective questions applied to the managers of the researched companies. After analysing the information, it was observed that all of the companies present functional organizational structure, the planning is systematic in 100% of the companies, and 2 of them accomplish systematic planning of long period. All of the companies emphasize the innovation and the creativity and they present stable relationship with the external atmosphere, characteristics related to the stage of Formalization. Taking as reference these and other variants, it was possible to conclude that five of the researched companies are in the Formalization stage and one in the Flexibilization stage.
