Abstract	This article explores leadership development of women as a circular path, based on the image of a ziggurat that is introduced by Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo. She mentions this image when she is questioning the fact that we so often think of development in a linear way and suggests a circular approach, like climbing a ziggurat. The article itself makes circular movements around three themes: literacy, women and leadership. Literacy is not an individual project, but it is happening in relation with others. It happens at the moment that someone asks the question: where are you now, what is important for you at this specific point in your life? This question opens up the opportunity for a second birth in speech. Secondly, there is another opening to the ongoing process of becoming a woman, in creative writing. For this continuous process, a specific leadership approach is suggested, using the metaphor of a gardener. Like a gardener, a leader is facilitating a process of ‘becoming’, of writing and speaking yourself into being as a woman. Key-words: leadership of women, creative writing, spiral evolution, (conversational) learning, plurality, natality, whitespace, hospitality. It is in fact because I thought I recognized something cracked, dully jarring or disfunctioning in things I saw in the institutions in which I dealt in my relations with others, that I undertook a particular piece of work, several fragments of an autobiography.
