Abstract	In recent years region of the Baixo Acarau has undergone changes, especially regarding the land use/cover because deployment to the Irrigated Perimeter Low Acarau. Thus, the objective of this study to assess changes in land use/cover over time, using GIS and thus provide a basis for planning and management of environmental and agricultural region of the Baixo Acarau. The method adopted was the multitemporal analyses, limited to the period from 1999 to 2008. To obtain a map of the dynamics of land use/cover of the Baixo Acarau sampling was performed for a sample characterization and classification of classes of land use/cover. Were used for the two dates, satellite images LANDSAT 5 ETM. With the mapping of land use and land cover 16 classes were established, where in two years (1999 and 2008) the largest land cover class corresponded to the mixed vegetation, followed by vegetation class of trees and shrubs and riparian vegetation class with carnauba palm associated.
