| Abstract | The genus Fusarium is characterized by a great morphological variability under different culture conditions and the isolates degenerate quickly. The best conditions for the culture have not been determined in Cuba, even when the knowledge of this important genus has been increased, due to the scarce information about the genus and the costs of most modern techniques. To contribute to the solution of this problem, the influence of pH and culture media on the expression of character of taxonomic value of the more frequent Cuban Fusarium species was studied. With this purpose, eight fresh strains from Plant Health Research Institute Culture Collection were used. The influence of the pH on biomass production of the studied species was determined and the best culture medium to the expression of all the useful characters. With the study of the pH it was proven that the good values of growth were among 5.5 - 6.5. It was demonstrated that the best expression of useful morphological characters for the diagnosis of the studied Fusarium species was achieved with Carnation leaf-Agar, followed by SNA and finally Potato Agar with filter paper; the media Potato-Dextrose Agar and Potato-sucrose agar were appropriate for the study of the cultural characters. |
