| Abstract | When the history of art is examined, it is seen that the symbolic meanings of works of Ottoman and Western painters are quite different with the effect of social culture.When the two are compared, the difference of social life as well as the change of formal style is remarkable.On the other hand daily life, holy persons and religious events are generally discussed in the works of Western painters. In the works of Ottoman painters, the main theme is social and political elements such as historical events, wars, state organizations, daily life of the palace, portraits of the sultans.The aim of this study is to compare the works of Western and Ottoman painters with food and beverage figures. The works of Van Gogh, Osman Hamdi Bey, Caravaggio and Hoca Ali Rıza were examined in this study.
