| Abstract | Cerebral palsy (CP) is an overarching term to describe several different disorders as a result of brain damage that occurs in children before, during or shortly after birth (Lane & Bundy, 2011). Cerebral palsy is the most common motor disability in children. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1 in 323 children in the United States has CP. Children with CP typically experience difficulties with postural control and motor abilities (Ramstrand & Lygnegard, 2012). While CP is a non-progressive disorder, secondary complications such as joint contracture and respiratory limitations often deteriorate children’s abilities over time (Lane & Bundy, 2011). |
