| Abstract | MURRAY, ROSE C. BA.L.S. OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, 2000 AN EXPLORTORY DESCRIPTIVE STUDY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN SENIORS’ PERCEPTIONS OF HIV/AIDS: AIDS AND VALUE CLARIFICATION Advisor: Professor Hattie M. Mitchell, MSW Thesis dated May, 2002 This study examined the African-American seniors’ perceptions ofHIV/AIDS: AIDS and value clarification, which were based on the premise that perceptions and values have nothing to do with gender. A case study analysis approach was used to analyze data gathered by the researcher and to determine what the clients perceptions are, which people become infected, who they are, if they believe HIV/AIDS could affect them, or if they think that they are immime to infection. The researcher found that there were no significant differences among seniors perception ofHTV/AIDS, and no significant difference among male and female value clarifications ofHTV/AIDS. The conclusions drawn from the findings suggested that there were a few variables noting a need for more education for this population on HTV/AIDS. The hypothesis was accepted.
