| Abstract | DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AS CAUSE OF DEPRESSION DISORDER IN WOMEN Context. Depressive Disorder ranks first among the causes of disability worldwide. Family violence is a serious public health problem, and can be a major cause of depression. Objective. Determine if the domestic violence is due to the development of depressive disorder in women attending "Las Tres Manuelas" Equity and Justicia Center. Design: Observational, Study cases with Analytical Longitudinal Epidemiological point of view and control. Location and subjects. This study was conducted in Ecuador, 114 women were included, 57 patients with depressive disorder and 57 controls without depressive disorder. The cases were women of "Las Tres Manuelas" Equity and Justicia Center who in the Scale of Zung Depressive Disorder obtained results of Depressive Disorder. Controls were carried on with outpatients of different specialties Sangolqui Cantonal Hospital, except Mental Health, whose results did not evidence depression. Main measurements: Depressive Disorder and Domestic Violence. Family Violence Survey, Chile Ministry of Health, MOS Questionnaire of Social Support Perceived, Zung Depression Self-administered Scale. Results. Of the 57 women with depressive disorder 40 (35.1%) had Mild Disorder, 14 (12.3%) Moderate and 3 (2.6%) Grave. Of the 57 women diagnosed with Depressive Disorder 51 (89.50%) evidenced Psychological Violence, 43 (75.40%) Physical, 42 (73.70%) Sexual and 48 (84.2%) Economical. Conclusion. Family violence is associated with Depressive Disorder, it is emergent the implementation of measures provided by the Ministry of Health for its prevention and treatment with a view to its eradication.
