| Abstract | The fungal spondylodiscitis, an entity that refers to an infection, which affects the vertebral body and intervertebral disk caused by some sort of fungus, the most common causative agents are Candida and Aspergillus. The fungal spondylodiscitis diagnosis currently relies on the presence of risk factors, microbiology, serological tests (AGM and BDG) and image contrast Magnetic Resonance being more useful study. The gold standard for establishing a diagnosis of fungal infection is to obtain tissue for histological confi rmation or culture; endoscopy being the ideal method for sampling. Antifungal is the treatment of fi rst choice in fungal spondylodiscitis, but there are clear indications for surgical treatment where mechanical stabilization by posterior approach and drainage and placement of structured autologous graft anterior approach, in the same act or a second stage surgical are the current standard surgical treatment. |
