| Abstract | The paper describes a method to simulate the motion of natural hair. Simulation of hair accurately is a very difficult thing to do because humans have hair of numerous varieties. Asian, Caucasian and African hair are the hair types considered by the paper. For any individual with a particular hair type, her/his hair is composed of thousands of hair strands and to simulate the person’s hair, all those strands have to be simulated somehow. Each hair strand has a complex non-linear mechanical behaviour. Also, there is interaction between different strands of hair that has to be taken into consideration. Moreover, the hair can interact with various surfaces like clothes. This also needs to be simulated and it should be done efficiently. Modelling and simulating all these is considered as one of the most difficult things in animation and this is what makes it interesting. |
