| Abstract | Development at the National Level Despite the very low level from which it started after the war, the Greek economy has shown a striking performance during the post-war period and has already reached a satisfactory level of development. During the decade 1950-60, the average rate of growth of G.N.P. was 5.5 % and of per capita income 4.6% while during the past decade 1960-70 the corresponding figures were even higher (6.9 % and 6.4 % respectively). Under conditions of monetary stability, during the overall period 1950-70, G.D.P. increased fourfold, while contribution of the manufacturing sector to G.D.P. increased sevenfold. Up to 1960, the main emphasis of national development policy was in securing monetary stability and reconstructing the economy from the war damages.
