| Abstract | The development of the notion of sustainable development is a dynamic phenomenon (Egelston, 2006), and its description has been evolving over time. Although there are different approaches and definitions for sustainable development, the commonly used one is the definition declared in Brundtland Commission Report, Our Common Future (1987), “.development that meets the need of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (p.43). In order to elucidate the key elements of sustainable development, 18 principles were declared in the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), also known as Rio Declaration (UNCED, 1992).
