| Abstract | INFLUENCE OF COMPOST B U L S ON THE PHYTOPHAGOUS NEMATODES DEVELOPMENT AND ON THE TOMATO PLANT GROWTH IN SENEGAL. The effect of various tomato plant nurseries treatment methods on phytophagous nematodes development has been studied on a tria’l carried out at Cambérène, in Senegal. The culture has been made between June and October during the rainy season. The chemical treatment with oxamnyl induces an important reduction of Meloidogyne population, except when the planting has been made lately wi th the coming of the first flower bunch. The treatment with aldicarbe reduces the nematodes population by three. Planting young plants sowed in cubic balls of 4 or 6 cm of edge leads about to the same result. As far as agronomic is concerned, use of compost balls technique permits to avoid plants mortality after planting . I n the field, plants are slightly taller and haue morè flower bunches than those planted without balls. The yield in ton per hectare increases by approximately one-third compared w i th plots cult ivated -_ _ i --I .traditionally. -_ |
