| Abstract | Tillage system may have influence on the soil characteristics in a significant way. The aim of this study was to characterize the general soil properties of a Cambisol. The study was performed in the Centro de Investigaciones Agrarias de Mabegondo (A Coruña, Spain) with four different treatments: raigrass-maize rotations under conventional till and no till and raigrass-sorgum under conventional tillage and no till. Particle size distribution, cationic exchange capacity, organic matter content, pH, particle density, and bulk density were analyzed. For each parameter analysis were carried out following routine methodologies. Mean contents of silt and clay were 39% and 21%, respectively and the soil was characterized as loamy. Particle density oscillated between 2.54 and 2.67 Mg m and bulk density ranged between 0.82 and 1.29 Mg m. No significant differences in these parameters were observed among treatments. The pH (H2O) values showed lower coefficients of variation than the pH (KCl) values. Exchange cations presented different coefficients of variation for each element, so, for Na+ CV ranged between 8 and 21% whereas those for Al varied from 0 to 53%. The Ca content was lower than the recommended values for this type of soil. |
