Abstract On the current panorama for renewable energy signals that its relevance has increased in the global energy matrix, since the reserves of fossil fuels - due to the large demand for energy - have suffered drastic reductions and their widespread use makes concern for environmental issues necessary. Among the alternative renewable energy sources, biodiesel appears as a highly promising alternative. Biodiesel is a renewable energy source, that is to say a liquid fuel derived from biomass for the purpose of transport, whose sources are most commonly vegetable oils, animal fats and waste fats, which must undergo the process of transesterification, formation of microemulsions or pyrolysis. The use of waste oil as a raw material has become very appealing, because besides its potential for generating energy, recycling these has socio-economic benefits and the cost of the raw material is low.
