| Abstract | Castor (Ricinus communis L.) is an agro industrial crop that is found across all the tropical and semi-tropical regions of the world, and it is recommended to altitudes not higher than 1500 masl, because it is assumed that cool habitats affect the performance of this specie, by disturbing castor ́s plant growth and development, and reducing castor oil quantity and quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the physiological behavior of castor, through different environmental conditions associated with altitude, from 540 (warm), 1250 (cool) to 2120 masl (cold habitat) in Colombia. The environmental did not affect dry matter, yield components, plant gas-exchange, and castor oil quantity and quality, so, this specie can be grown in cold regions, without effect in its physiological performance and final plant yield. The final quality of biodiesel from castor oil, did not meet the international standards for acid value, and density. Lista de figuras XII |
