| Abstract | In this paper we diminish the gap between the classical necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality in two equality constraint isoperimetric calculus of variations problems. The conditions of the sufficiency theorems do not impose the strict condition of Legendre but only the standard necessary condition of the former. An example in which a singular arc affords a strong local minimum illustrates the properties of the alternate sufficiency theory presented in this article. Mathematics Subject Classification: 49K15 |
