| Abstract | Stoichiometric number of the rate-determining step of catalyzed oxidation of S02 2S02 +02 = 2S03 ( 1 ) in the presence of Pt catalyst was determined at 424°, 430° and 440e by following the reaction up to equilibrium by observing j3-ray count of 35S in S02 and S03 and their partial pressures and by determining the equilibrium constant. The stoichiometric number Y(r) was found 2. It follows from the result that the ratedetermining step is one of last two steps of the sequence, O2 -.-> 20(a)···· ... •··•··•··•··•··•··•· (i) S02 ~ S02(a) .•..•..•.....•..•..•..•. (ii) 0(a)+S02(a) ~ S03, .•........•. (iii) provided that the reaction foJlowed the sequence. The present result is in agreement on the one hand with the y(r)-value derived from the data of REITER7) incorporated with that of KNIETSCHIO) at 6000 e in equilibrium and on the other hand with the conclusion arrived at previously by BORESKOV!1). |
