| Abstract | In this study, the mechanical properties and microstructure of high density polyethylene (HDPE)/wood fibre (pinus pinaster) composites are investigated. The four-bending behaviour of wood-plastic composite (WPC) is studied using full-field strain measurements by 3D digital image correlation. These field strain measurements allow us to observe the spatial distribution of deformation and analyse the capability of cracking. In addition, optical method allowed us to study the damage behavior and the degree of heterogeneity for several percentages of fiber wood-based WPC are analysed thanks to the spatial standard deviation of the longitudinal strain field. With this technology it was possible to study of the mechanical properties in tensile and compression during four bending test. Furthermore, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)is used to characterize the morphology of the wood fiber/ HDPE matrix interface.
