| Abstract | Purpose: To determine the correlation between parity, gravidity and urodynamic stress urinary incontinence in patients attending the Urology Department at the Hospital Universitario del Valle in CaliColombia, during a 2 year period. Methods: We reviewed the urodynamic tests performed at the Urology Department in the Hospital Universitario del Valle in Cali, Colombia, between June 01, 2008 and June 01, 2010. Patients who presented urodynamic stress urinary incontinence were identified and included in the study. Information on age at the time of the urodynamic evaluation, gynaecological-obstetric history, pelvic surgery, diabetes mellitus and neurological disease was assessed. The presence of vaginal prolapses and data on ALPP and overreactive bladder were also determined. The correlation between parity, gravidity and urodynamic stress urinary incontinence was established. Statistical analysis was performed with the STATA 10.0 program. Results: 78 women with urodynamically proven stress urinary incontinence were included in the study. Average age was 54 years (+11 years). 77% of patients had a history of <= 5 pregnancies and 56% underwent 1 to 3 vaginal deliveries. 38% of patients had undergone some type of pelvic surgery. 78% of patients had some degree of anterior vaginal prolapse, 38% posterior vaginal prolapse and 10% vaginal cuff prolapse. ALPP was < 60 cm H2O in 47% of cases. No correlation was observed between parity and ALPP (p=0.566) or between gravidity and ALPP (p=0.267). Conclusion: No correlation was observed between parity or gravidity and value of abdominal leak point pressure (ALPP) in patients with stress urinary incontinence. |
