| Abstract | Quantify the mortality rates by malnutrition, as basic and multiple cause of death in the state of Chihuahua, obtain one index for sensibility to health personal about the importance of the early diagnostic of malnutrition and evaluate indirectly the impact of the interventions realized also. Death certificates were reviewed considering the basic and multiple cause of death in the year 2000. The rates were calculated by age, sex and place of birth. The multiple/ basic cause of death ratio was also calculated. The number of death by malnutrition is 1.63 times higher than that reported by basic cause. The proportional mortality in the state was 3.5%. The highest was in Guachochi with 10.9%.The total State mortality rates for malnutrition was 1.8/ 10,000 habitant. The groups with highest risk were children under one year and elderly over 65 years with total rates of 10.5 and 20.9/ 10,000 habitant respective. The jurisdictions of Guachochi and Creel (mountain area) present the highest rates, 5.32 y 4.24/ 10,000 habitant. The figures show considerable decrease, in relation with the results of 1990. The extremes of the life are still the risk groups. The dates give elements for the orientation of the policies of alimentary assistance in the state. |
