| Abstract | The present dissertation aims at studying those gender stereotypes present in children’s drawing. The theoretical basis here presented makes emphasis on the importance of receiving a non-sexist quality education. Next, I explain the origin and continuity of deep-rooted gender stereotypes that do not favor gender equality due to the promotion of certain gender expectations and inequalities. Besides, I will explain the reason why gender stereotypes play such an important role throughout childhood. Children’s drawing will be the means of analysis I will use to detect key gender stereotypes in childhood. For this purpose, a study will be carried out in a preschool classroom. Then, I reflect on the future consequences of avoiding this issue from preschool onwards, not advocating for a change. Finally, I will suggest innovative intervention strategies that will help us to see whether gender stereotypes can be “unlearned” or not, once they had been acquired. |
