| Abstract | Background:Utilization of natural resource as medicine may reduce the side effects by using of synthetic medicine. Cogon grass rhizomes was one of natural materials which was able to be used as medicine. In this research, cogon grass rhizomes were made in the form of effervescent tablets. The chosen of effervescent tablet form was because it’s practical usage, faster onset of action or faster absorption than conventional tablet. Objective: To determine whether cogon grass extract with various filler could be made into effervescent tablet. Method:Effervescenttablet using the cogon grass(Imperata cylindrica (L.) P. Beauv) rhizome extract which was obtained by maceration method using ethanol 80% solvent and subsequently dried using lactose with the ratio of thick extract and lactose was 1:3. Effervescent tablet was prepared using direct compression method by varying filler that were used include lactose granules (formula F1), ratio combination of lactose and amylum manihot granules2:1 (formula F2); 1:1 (formula F3); 1:2 (formula F4), amylum manihot granules (formula F5), and avicel PH102 (formula F6). Preformulation test contain angle of repose, flow time, and tap index and evaluation of effervescent tablets including weight uniformity, hardness, friability, dissolution time, pH, and water content. Result:The result of preformulation test showed that the effervescent granules has good characteristics so it can be compressed into a tablet. The test results effervescent tablet evaluation has hardness value was ranging from3-5,5 kg, friability was ranging from 0,16-29%, dissolution time was ranging from 2,112,93 minute, pH was ranging from 6-6,7, and water content was ranging from 44,9%. Conclusion:Cogon grass rhizomeextract can be formulated as effervescent tablet usingdirect compression method with lactose granule (formula F1)as filler passed allthe characteristics for effervescent tablet and with the result approachingavicel PH 102 (formula F6). |
