| Abstract | The preliminary study of several lower Cretaceous outcrops near Villa de Leyva, and ChipataVelez sectors (Boyaca-Santander, Colombia) allowed the identification of high content of the calcareous benthic foraminifera Epistomina caracolla (ROEMER) over biosparitic limestones in the middle part of the Paja Formation. Benthic foraminifera in all these points are associated with the ammonites Pseudohaploceras, Pedioceras, Nicklesia, Buergliceras and Karsteniceras, that indicate a lower Barremian age. Micropaleontologic and petrographic studies of these calcareous levels show a great similarity in their characteristics and the homogeneous presence of the identified fossil association supports the designation of a bioevent with possible stratigraphic relevance in the Paja Formation. |
