| Abstract | Bovine mastitis is a complex disease that causes signifi cant losses worldwide and especially in regions with intensive dairy production. Ninety fi ve cows were selected randomly in the Orchid Farm, located in the municipality of Candelaria in the Town of Mines Monay, to Torococo, Trujillo State, to carry out sampling for the isolation and characterization of bacteria causing subclinical mastitis in cattle. The prevalence of the same test was performed using the California Mastitis Test. The collected samples were taken during the afternoon milking. The fi rst procedure was The California Mastitis Test, followed by sampling for bacterial isolation. All samples were transported in ice coolers to the laboratory of the Research Centre “Jose Witremundo Torrealba” Nucleo Universitario “Rafael Rangel” at The Andes University, in Trujillo, processing in the same day of collection. These were cultured on blood agar and McConkey agar and incubated at 37 ° C for 48 hours. Each isolated colony was stained by the Gram technique and subsequently identifi ed by biochemical results. The results obtained allow concluding that in the Orquidea Farm there is a high prevalence of subclinical mastitis, reaching 93% positivity according to the California Mastitis Test. Staphylococcus aureus was the most frequently isolated bacteria in the samples examined. These results suggest the need to establish monitoring systems to control and prevent mastitis and improve milk quality |
