Abstract	RESUMEN La tuberculosis y la infección por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana VIH se encuentran epidemiológicamente asociados en cuanto a pronóstico de riesgo, sea para desarrollar TBC en un paciente VIH positivo primario o como indicador pronóstico de la infección por VIH. La asociacion de TB y VIH potencian sus morbilidades. La extensión de la epidemia VIH en todo el mundo permitió que su interacción con la tuberculosis (TB) modificase la curva de descenso de tuberculosis en los países que habían conseguido dicha disminución como EEUU;o que en los países en vías de desarrollo que sufrían una elevada endemia tuberculosa dicho problema se agrave. El riesgo de muerte por TB en un paciente con VIH es 2 a 4 veces mayor en un paciente con TB y sin VIH, independientemente al nivel de linfocitos T CD4 (LT CD4 Palabras clave: tuberculosis, VIH, SIDA, pronostico, riesgo, epidemilogía. ABSTRACT: Tuberculosis (TB) and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection are epidemiologically linked with respect to their risk prognosis, be it for the development of TB in an HIV-infected patient or as a prognostic indicator of HIV infection. The association of TB and HIV potentiates the aggressiveness of both. The extension of HIV epidemics all over the world allowed that its interaction with tuberculosis modified the descending curve of the frequency of TB in those countries that had achieved such reduction, such as the USA. In developing countries highly endemic for TB, this interaction worsened this problem. The risk of dying because of TB in an HIV-infected patient is 2 to 4 times higher compared to that in a TB patient not infected with HIV, independently of the CD-4 lymphocyte count.
