| Abstract | Abstract. The essential oils of the leaf and peel Citrus hystrix obtained by hydrodistillation were compared for their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities on the basis of chemical components of both oils. GC-MS analysis of the leaf oil resulted in the identification 16 compounds and the major components is citronella (71.76%), citronellol (10.45%), linalool (4.55%), citronellyl acetate (4.28%) and sabinene (2.00%). The peel oil shows the 30 compounds and the major components is β-pinene (23.03%), sabinene (13.37%), terpinene-4-ol (11.43%), limonene (10.59%) and citronella (10.41%). Oils of leaf and peel C. hystrix showed antimicrobial against Shigella SP, Streptococcus mutan, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus , Candida albicans, Saccharomycess cerevisiae . The essential oils of leaf has higher level antoxidant activity (IC 50 value was 59.98 mg/L) there compared to the essential oil of peel (IC 50 value was 72.78 mg/L) Keyword s : Essential oil, citrus hystrix , antimicrobial activity, antioxidant activity |
