| Abstract | Stroke is the third cause of death and the first cause of disability in the world; it affects the central nervous system damaging several brain areas. The objective of this study is to establish the principal risk factors for this pathology in order to determine the importance of the psychological and neuropsychological evaluation through the revision of the actual literature. Results showed that there are many risk factors well established and that the mortality can be reduced by the knowledge of the principals complications that can occur; the most important conclusion is that social isolation is the most affected dominium of quality of life and that that the cognitive deficits are related with the reduction of the perceived quality of life. It can be concluded that the psychological and neuropsychological evaluation is important to determine the proper rehabilitation program and to improve the individual s quality of life. |
