| Abstract | This study aimed to verify the formation of twenty two halogenated organic byproducts (HOB) when preoxidizing raw water with high content of aquatic humic substances (AHS). Preoxidation-coagulation-filtration tests using the jar test and Whatman 40 filters were carried out using aluminum sulfate as coagulant and chlorine or chlorine dioxide as preoxidants. The results obtained showed that the use of preoxidation with both chlorine and chorine dioxide caused the formation of HOB, especially haloacetics acids. The concentration of all HOB formed with chlorine resulted higher than those observed with chlorine dioxide. |
