| Abstract | Abstract The reactivity of singly and doubly selenium-bridged complexes containing two Cp ★ Rh(CO) fragments (Cp ★ = η 5 -C 5 Me 5 ) has been investigated under various conditions. The addition of SO 3 to Cp ★ 2 Rh 2 (CO) 2 (μ-Se) gives a novel μ-SeSO 3 ligand, whose structure was determined by an X-ray diffraction study. The complexes Cp ★ 2 Rh 2 (CO) 2 (μ-E) 2 (E = S, Se) undergo a disproportionation reaction in solution: the clusters Cp ★ 3 Rh 3 (μ 3 -CO)(μ 3 -E) were isolated and structurally characterized, whereas the remaining soluble, presumably mononuclear species was only detected by IR spectroscopy. In contrast, Cp ★ 2 Rh 2 (CO) 2 (μ-Se) 2 dimerizes upon warming to give Cp ★ 4 Rh 4 (μ 3 -Se) 4 with the loss of its CO groups. The 72-e heterocubane clusters Cp ★ 4 Co 2 Rh 2 Se 4 and Cp ★ 4 Co 4 Se 4 have been synthesized from Cp ★ 2 CoM(CO) 2 Se 2 (M = Co, Rh). The cluster Cp ★ 3 Rh 3 (CO) 3 was isolated as a further byproduct from the synthesis of Cp ★ 2 Rh 2 (CO) 2 . The IR spectra and the X-ray crystallographic study show that the complex contains one μ 3 -CO and two μ 2 -CO ligands. |
