| Abstract | This study consisted of applying a method of planning of the forest exploitation for the forests of The Western Plains of Venezuela that allowed to diminish the impact caused by the traditional practice of exploitation used in these ecosystems. For the achievement of this objective the traditional method and the planned method were applied in two stands of the Experimental Station of Caparo Forest Reserve, both with a surface of 62,5 ha. Two evaluations were carried out one before the forest exploitation and the second three years later. The comparisons were carried out on the basis of the changes in the species diversity. The changes in the diversity of species indicate that in the traditional method the diversity tends to diminish and for the one planned method; to increase. The planned method developed is feasible from the ecological point of view as well as from the environmental one.
