| Abstract | The Family Health Program (PSF in Portuguese) rescues the family care, which may have the elderly care as a main focus. The aim of the work presented here is the identification of the demanded care required by elderly people when staying at home and being assisted by the PSF program. The studies were carried out following a quantitative approach, and were applied over a sample comprising 176 elderly persons, having a minimum age of 60 years each. This sample was taken from a PSF station (USF – Unidade de Saude da Familia in Portuguese) placed in a city situated in the north of the Rio Grande do Sul state. The results indicate the pre-eminence of the female sex in the sample. The overall average age was 69.6 ± 7.49 years. Concerning health comorbidity, it was identified in 85.2 % persons. The causes observed were originated from diseases of circulatory system, endocrine-metabolic nutritional and those ones from illnesses osteomuscular system and subjacent conjunctive tissues. Related to the domicile care, 24.4 % of the studied elderly persons were requiring some specific care. In summar y, theses results shown that this group of persons from our society demonstrates a big health and social vulnerability. Therefore, it is extremely necessary that the USF prioritize the elderly care, promoting further a qualified care inside their domiciles. Nevertheless, this should be carried out respecting the valid care system defined by the PSF system. |
