| Abstract | In this work, platinum (Pt) particles were electrochemically deposited on poly(3,4ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) by cyclic voltammetry. The substrate effect on polymer growth as well as the dispersion of Pt particles were compared by using polycrystalline (pc) Pt and Pt(111) single crystal electrode as substrates. The electrocatalytic activity of the Pt catalysts towards ethanol electro-oxidation was studied and compared to each other. It was found that among the different electrocatalyst systems, PEDOT-modified pc Pt with Pt particles exhibited the highest electrocatalytic activity towards the electro-oxidation of 1.0 M ethanol in 0.10 M sulfuric acid. On the other hand, surface morphology of these electrocatalyst systems were studied using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) while the presence of dispersed Pt particles was confirmed using Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX). |
