| Abstract | The mangroves have an enormous socio-economic importance to the traditional populations that live in these environments is common to find mangrove crab (Ucides cordatus), accounting for many communities the main source of livelihood. The municipality of Quatipuru, located in northeast of state of Para, is a good example to demonstrate the importance of this resource for their community in recent years the council has submitted the highest values of commercial production of mangrove crab in the state of Para, however, specific work as the bioecology of the species in the Quatipuru, are missing. In this sense, this work has information about the biology and ecology of the species, and information on commercial production in the city. In carrying out the work, were made monitoring of two (02) of mangrove areas in the region during the period September 2006 to July 2007, in order to obtain data on the density, sex ratio, biometrics and environmental parameters. In the study of commercial production was estimated annual production of the council, the methods of capture and biometrics (width of shell and total weight) of crabs marketed. With regard to animals from the collection of field, the studies demonstrated no significant differences enter the two areas, both get that density was 1.36 holes/m in 01 and 1.21 holes/m in the area 02, also with for the sexual ratio that was 2.39 M: 1F in the area 01 and 1.43 M: 1F, however, was found during the year, a larger number of females in the month of May 2007 in the region 02. With regard to biometric analysis, the average width of the carapace (LC) found was 6.13 cm for males and 5.46 cm for females in the area 01 and 6.31 cm for males and 5.33 cm for females in the area 02, with the weight, the average recorded was 96.73 grams for males and 67.93 grams for females in the area 01 and 106.47 g for males and 64.85 grams for females in the area 02, being observed a strong correlation between these variables both for males as for females, in the two areas, checking the influence of biological factors occurring in the year, with ecdise on these variables. With regard to animals marketed, it was found that all individuals were males have an average width for the carapace (LC) from 7.26 cm to LC minimum and maximum of 5.2 cm was found in March 2007 and 8.5 cm found in the months of September 2006 and January 2007. With respect to the average weight of 161.0 grams was found, the maximum being recorded from 300.0 grams in September 2006 and the minimum value of 80.0 g occurred in the month of July 2007. The annual production estimated for the city was 1.189,73 ton / year, therefore, a lower yield that registered in recent years by CEPNOR / IBAMA, but within the historical average of the Quatipuru city. The areas studied showed that despite already being exploited rather has a population density similar to that of other regions of Brazil, and the proportion found sexual and figures biometric recorded. With regard to commercial production despite having been recorded an annual output less than the last few years, Quatipuru remains one of the largest producers of this commercial use in Brazil, this factor possibly related to marketing, not females, the method of capture (braceamento) and respect the size of the crab market.
