| Abstract | This research effort was an investigation of selected human service agencies in Utah. The specific aim was to explore the benefits received by the Mexican-American clientele of the selected state-wide agencies. The theoretical model which guided the collection of data was that of Internal Colonialism. This scheme focuses upon a specific s~t of societal factors which serve to hamper a group's ability to become self-sufficient in society. This was modified in accord with the specific aim of the research. The research design employed primarily was that of the survey, which seeks to collect standardized data and which allows for standardization of analysis. Official agency records on Mexican-Americans from the selected state-wide agencies and structured questionnaires on a sample df these Mexican-Americans were one source of data. Structured mailed questionnaires filled in by each agency's (1) line employees, (2) regional directors and (3) state director were a second general fund of data. The data collected support generally the theoretical scheme as a likely explanation for the surveyed agencies' failure to assist their Mexican-American clients toward realizing self-sufficiency as members of ยท American society. |
