| Abstract | Despite of the recent development of design practice research, this discussion has not yet been fully incorporated in fashion. It stumbles upon the building of a theory from design research and struggles against similar issues from other practice-oriented fields of knowledge such as the lack of academic consensus on quality and validity of practice research. To address these issues in the context of fashion research, this study aims at examining the current status of fashion design practice in Brazilian higher education. Here, abstracts of master’s degree level dissertations from 18 universities are analyzed. As a result, a thematic categorization provides information regarding the current stage of fashion design practice research. Accordingly, the contribution of this study is twofold. It introduces lesser-known cases from Brazil to a broader academic context and encourages the future fashion designers to be aware of alternative ways of utilizing acquired fashion design knowledge. |
