Abstract	The relationship between preferences for specific tourist activities and general pro-environmental attitudes and values was investigated on a sample 98 Rome residents. Results support previous findings confirming that preferences for eco-tourism are only partially explained by proenvironmental attitudes and values, while ecotourist choice can be affected by various additional motivational factors. Some of these adjunctive factors concerns the possibility to experience alternative form of tourism, the opportunity to do various kinds of sports in an open air context and the quest for wellbeing and environmental quality. Theoretical and practical implications for ecotourism management are also discussed.
